Viviendo 100 años (Español)

A comienzos de este extraño  año 2020, tuve la hermosa oportunidad de asistir como THE DROP-IN ARTIST al cumpleaños numero 100 de la abuela de una amiga.  La reunión se hizo en un Pub cerca de la residencia de la cumpleañera.  La reunión congregó familiares y nietos. Para algunos  resultó ser  una oportunidad para conocer a su bisabuela y para otros que, ancestros y predecesores se unieran en una celebración por la vida.  

Celebrating 100 years

At the beginning of this strange year 2020, just before lockdown, I had the opportunity to attend as THE DROP-IN ARTIST the 100^th birthday celebration of my friend’s grandmother, Mrs Yvonne Holmes. 

The celebration was held in at the Heckfield Inn near her home.  The reunion brought together many generations: for some, it proved to be an opportunity to meet their great-grandmother and for others a celebration to life, to be enjoyed between extended family and friends.

A manera de entretenimiento mi trabajo consistió en retratar a los invitados en el libro de invitados para que ellos pudieran luego dedicar unas líneas a nuestra centenaria  cumpleañera,  para digitalizar los dibujos y  poder enviarlos  como trajeta de agradecimiento.

As event artist, I was there to capture the guests’ portrait in a specially commissioned celebration book. They could then pen a few lines on their own portrait page to Yvonne so she could have this as a keepsake or her remarkable achievement.

 The portrait page could then be digitized to be used as afterparty thank you card

 Durante toda la tarde estuve haciendo  retratos ¡ 31 retratos  en total!   Todo un record! Un par de dibujos fueron añadidos en postproduction para así tener a todos los invitados del día reunidos  en el libro. También  se añadieron decorados para las páginas donde se luego se añadirían  fotos y tarjetas.

I did 31 portraits in total during the gathering.   Quite a record! I also added decorations for the pages where photos and cards would later be added.

A manera de “escrapbook” - libro donde recortamos y pegamos cosas para  evocar ideas, sentimientos y cosas para recordar algún día especial- Al libro se le ha ido añadiendo una muestra las invitaciónes, servilletas, y  cualquier cosas que sirva para recordar el día. Y como no hacerlo; cuando cumples 100 años, en Inglaterra, si lo comunicas al Buckinham Palace, la mismísima Reina  de Inglaterra, te manda sus propia felicitaciones y te invita a tomar Té  en su residencia real. 

Like a scrapbook, the book has samples of the invitations, napkins and anything worth recording to mark this memorable day.

In England when you turn 100, Her Majesty the Queen sends you a birthday card! Unfortunately, Her Majesty declined to come to Yvonne’s party as she was engaged elsewhere. She missed a great party!

Yvonne was later invited to a veteran’s tea party at Buckingham Palace in the summer, but as you all know there is no certainty in 2020 and it was cancelled.

Pero vivimos un 2020 en los que cualquier acividad programada es suceptible  a cancelaciones y este fue el caso.

   Lamentablemente  y parte del ciclo natural  de la  vida, Yvonne falleció.

 

    Su funeral  mantuvo el mismo espíritu que el de su cumpleaños celebrar su vida y haber sido parte de ella.  Para rendir honores  Se contó con la presencia de la presidenta  de la WAAF association. Yvonne se unió a la WAAF los 18 años durante la segunda guerra mundial.

 Se decidió que el resto del libro guardara la memoria de su funeral que tuvo lugar en la iglesia dónde ella iba habitualmente cerca del Pub donde meses atrás celebramos su cumpleaños. El libro  pasó  de ser un libro de invitados para convertirse un homenaje a su vida en su último año.

  Sadly, Yvonne passed away in September and her family asked me to record her funeral with military honours to close the chapter on her remarkable life and this book. 

Yvonne joined WAAF at the age of 21 during the Second World War. The chairman of the WAAF Association (Tracy Watson) was there to pay tribute, together with a Squadron Leader from the local RAF airbase and two standard bearers from the WAAF Association and RAF Association.

Her funeral kept the same spirit as her birthday: A celebration of her life. 

I used this theme of paying tribute to help transform her book using the events from her funeral at Hook Church and the wake (at the same pub as her party) to illustrate her remarkable life and to show the love for her of those who are left behind.

 May she rest in peace.

¡Estoy muy feliz de participar en el desafío de la acuarela al directo! Basaré mi experiencia en el libro de Marc Taro Holmes y en un taller en línea llamado Acuarelas Jugosas con Uma Kelkar. 

Soy una novata en paisajes y esta es la primera vez que trabajo la acuarela desde este enfoque. También estudiaré algunas paletas de colores reducidas e probará distintos temas paisajísticos. 

Para este reto preparé un par de videos para los que quisieran acompañarme en el desafío y compartir uno consejos para afrontar el reto.

Are you prepared for the 30x30 Direct watercolor challenge? 

I am so happy to participate in the #30x30watercolorChallenge! I will base my experience on Marc Taro Holmes Book and on an online workshop with Uma Kelkar. I am pretty new at landscapes an this is the first time I work on this approach. 

I will study as well some reduce color palettes and I will try different subjects for landscapes. 

For this challenge, I prepared a couple of videos for those who would like to join me in the challenge and have some tricks to meet the challenge. These videos are currently in Spanish but I am working on the subtitle. Check them out they might be ready by now!

Aunque esporádicas, "The Drop-in artist". (Mi negocio de dibujo para eventos) tuvo la oportunidad de participar nuevamente en otra fiesta de graducación de los nuevos oficiales de Sandhurst la prestigiosa academia militar de Inglaterra en la que príncipes del mundo vienen a entrenar y prepararse. 

Esta vez la organización me tuvo preparado un stand o puesto especial para la actividad. Buscando poco a poco mejorar llevé mi equipo de luces nuevo, y llevé preparado el papel personalizado con el logo y el nombre del evento para que los dibujos fueran un souvenir de tan importante momento. A las 12 de la noche de ese día los cadetes se hacen "Oficiales" oficialmente. 

Tras un duro año de entrenamiento y pruebas que los llevarán a límite tanto física como psicológimanete los cadetes concluyen el viaje con esta celebración. Los hermosos uniformes fueron hechos a medida para lucirlos durante las celebraciones. La gala es la primera vez que los lucen. Cada modelo corresponde a las diferentes divisiones. Dibujo a estos chicos con mucha admiración por que estarán a la cabeza de importantes misiones para proteger la soberanía y la libertad de su país.

Another great night in Sandhurst Ball. This time with a stand, my very own light, assistant help, and personalized paper. With such improvements, I made beautiful portraits of 16 UK new officers. Congratulations once again to all of those that made it up to officers after succeeding a rough year training.

No cualquier birra (cerveza) y no en cualquier parque!
Birra Moretti (del grupo Heineken in UK) a través de Scarllet Entertainment me invitó a ser parte de el staff de entretenimiento para una fiesta privada un lunes 8 de Julio, después del trabajo para los empleados de Heineken en su Piazza Birra Moretti.
Un local POP-UP levantado en HydePark, Londres para estar allí durante las dos semanas que dura el famoso festival de verano British Summer Time.

In keeping with the charity's vision of woman supporting woman, she embarked upon the challenge to hire a team of women only artist. This she accomplished with a talented magician, an electric violinist and me, I was honored to be part of this fantastic evening.

Fiesta privada en Mayfair, The Conduit Club. Londres

Mi primer evento de Scarlett fue una fiesta súper Chic en el Club Privado "The Conduit" en Londres https://theconduit.com/ Nuestra anfitriona también quiso dedicar la fiesta a una organización benéfica para mujeres en la que ella trabaja como voluntaria https://www.womenforwomen.org.uk 

De acuerdo con la visión de organización de apoyo a la mujer, se embarcó en el desafío de contratar a un equipo de mujeres artistas. Se asombró de la dificultad para encontrar mujeres magos pero logró con gran acierto encontrar a Romina una maga talentosa, una violinista eléctronica y a mí!, Tuve el honor de ser parte de una velada fantástica.

Sandhurst Commissioning Ball 2018

It was a great honour that on Friday 10th August I was invited to The Royal Military Academy
at Sandhurst to

draw portraits of the newly commissioned officers at their Commissioning Ball.  The Academy is where all officers in the British Army are trained and their motto of ‘Serve to Lead’ is something that they now live by in their new regiments.  Over a 3 hour period I was proud to be able to draw 15 Officers, both male and female, and to be able to see their wonderful characters and to portray it in their portraits. Congratulations to all those who were commissioned on the day and for completing one of the hardest courses in the British Army.

Testimony:

"Daniela was invited to the Commissioning Ball at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst to draw  the newly commissioned officers who had just completed their 1 year course.  The course they had completed tested them in every way possible and a number of their colleagues did not succeed in making the grade. So the Ball was a celebration of them passing the course and becoming officers and the future of the British Army.

It was therefore really important for Daniela to capture the ‘spirit of the moment’ in their portraits and I am delighted she exceeded my expectations.

They were all delighted with their portraits and immediately were showing them to their guests. Daniela blended in to what was a completely new environment to her and it was obvious that her subjects enjoyed chatting to her while she completed the portrait. We will be inviting her back!"

Elves found in Italy / Duendes en Italia!!

A Spanish school teacher in Italy from la Scuola Primaria Villaggio Celdit, Chieti Scalo classe V sez A. has decided to prepare a Spanish language workshop (Classe di laboratorio di Spagnolo) using Duendes Caseros book! It is a great news that the book is being used to make them dream and also play with the language and imagination. I am so happy because of that!

Miren que bonito! El libro de duendes coge nuevo impulso pues ha sido utilizado por una Profesora de español que ha diseñado un taller de Duendes en un colegio de primaria en Italia (Scuola Primaria Villaggio Celdit, Chieti Scalo classe V sez A. Classe di laboratorio di Spagnolo ). Me han mandado una foto y me ha dado mucha ilusión. Los que estan fuera pueden comprar el libro por Amazon.es.

One year later, the book presentation and signing / Un años después: la presentación.

An impromptu visit to Spain  to do a small book presentation and a signing for the book Duendes Caseros published by Grupo Edaf. The book was launch originally in March 16 but I could n´t go until recently January 2017. Happy to present and sign this amazing book in a very peculiar place Corazón de Agave ( Agave´s Heart A nice place to enjoy a good and wide variety of mezcal and agave beverages, this spirit might help you to see some Duendes, Elves or Sprites).

Una inesperada visita  fue aprovechada para levantar una inesperada presentación para el libro Duendes Caseros. No podía dejar de pasar esta oportunidad para regalarme la experiecia de Celebrar y bendecir esta publicación que fue hecha con tanto esfuerzo , y dedicación. Gracias a todos los que asistieron, pasamos una hermosa velada y además pude dedicar al menos 15 libros todos con algun dibujito.

Cosplayer are a community that enjoy disguise as there favorite character and also create their own costume. Most of the time they are proud of sharing there DIY.  Cosplayer based in London attend several cosplay events during the year and even organise their own!! I assist to one of this meet up picnics. And I had the pleasure to  draw them. And Also talk about my Drop-in Artist project.
