A night to remember for the newly commissioned officers of Sandhurst. I was delighted to be asked back to this event for the second time. At the end of the evening, 15 young new officers had a drawing to remember this wonderful evening by. Congratulations to you all; it was a privilege to be with you at the start of your journeys.

Una noche para recordar para los oficiales recién comisionados de Sandhurst. Me encantó que me pidieran volver a este evento por segunda vez. Al final de la tarde, 15 jóvenes oficiales nuevos tuvieron un dibujo para recordar esta maravillosa noche. Felicitaciones a todos ustedes!; fue un privilegio estar con ustedes al comienzo de sus viajes. 

Duendes Caseros hasta en laTele?

Insospechada aparición de los Duendes caseros - libro infantil Ilustrado por mi y escrito por María Gabriela Lovera- el pasado 13 de febrero en el programa televisivo español de Antena 3 "Ahora Caigo", a través de una difícil pregunta a sus concursantes.
Pongan atención a la pregunta que acontinuación verán en las imágenes adjuntas.

This new took me by surprise!.
During the Spanish TV Quiz show "Ahora Caigo" on air the 13.2.19. they asked a difficult question that was referring to a children´s book I illustrated three years ago!
How bizarre is that! I feel honored that a book I worked and produce was included in a Trivia´ quiz show!! SO Proud!

In keeping with the charity's vision of woman supporting woman, she embarked upon the challenge to hire a team of women only artist. This she accomplished with a talented magician, an electric violinist and me, I was honored to be part of this fantastic evening.

Fiesta privada en Mayfair, The Conduit Club. Londres

Mi primer evento de Scarlett fue una fiesta súper Chic en el Club Privado "The Conduit" en Londres https://theconduit.com/ Nuestra anfitriona también quiso dedicar la fiesta a una organización benéfica para mujeres en la que ella trabaja como voluntaria https://www.womenforwomen.org.uk 

De acuerdo con la visión de organización de apoyo a la mujer, se embarcó en el desafío de contratar a un equipo de mujeres artistas. Se asombró de la dificultad para encontrar mujeres magos pero logró con gran acierto encontrar a Romina una maga talentosa, una violinista eléctronica y a mí!, Tuve el honor de ser parte de una velada fantástica.

Sandhurst Commissioning Ball 2018

It was a great honour that on Friday 10th August I was invited to The Royal Military Academy
at Sandhurst to

draw portraits of the newly commissioned officers at their Commissioning Ball.  The Academy is where all officers in the British Army are trained and their motto of ‘Serve to Lead’ is something that they now live by in their new regiments.  Over a 3 hour period I was proud to be able to draw 15 Officers, both male and female, and to be able to see their wonderful characters and to portray it in their portraits. Congratulations to all those who were commissioned on the day and for completing one of the hardest courses in the British Army.

Testimony:

"Daniela was invited to the Commissioning Ball at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst to draw  the newly commissioned officers who had just completed their 1 year course.  The course they had completed tested them in every way possible and a number of their colleagues did not succeed in making the grade. So the Ball was a celebration of them passing the course and becoming officers and the future of the British Army.

It was therefore really important for Daniela to capture the ‘spirit of the moment’ in their portraits and I am delighted she exceeded my expectations.

They were all delighted with their portraits and immediately were showing them to their guests. Daniela blended in to what was a completely new environment to her and it was obvious that her subjects enjoyed chatting to her while she completed the portrait. We will be inviting her back!"

I was touched when a friend of mine, Lisa, asked me if she could use a drawing I did of her mum in a drop-in artist home visit for the front cover of the Order of Service for her funeral. The moment we shared whilst doing the drawing served as a reminder to all friends and family that attended the funeral that we all share precious moments. Somehow this special image of her will stay in our hearts.

Me conmovió cuando una amiga mía, Lisa, me preguntó si podía usar un dibujo que le hice a su madre en una de mis visitas de Dibujo, en la cubierta de la Orden de Servicio del funeral de su madre. El momento que compartimos mientras hacíamos el dibujo quedó marcado en el papel. Me gusta imaginar que el retrato sirve para conectar con la memoria de aquel a quien se contempla y que apartir de esos recuerdos cada quien traza, dibuja o a veces corrige el recuerdo que permanecerá definitivamente en cada uno de los corazones.

That’s what this St. Valentine’s Day commission is all about. I was asked to bring to life an illustration with love at its center. Their story is told as their memories unfold.

¿Qué pasaría si pudieras tener tu historia de amor representada en una sola imagen? 

De eso se trata esta comisión de San Valentín. Me pidieron dar vida a una ilustración donde el  amor es el tema centra. La historia transcurré entre besos y símbolos que solo cobran sentido para los que viven esta historia de amor.

First Portrait sitting. Posado para Retrato

This project was a romantic approach to portrait.  The sitter wants a painting similar in style to his grandfather one´s to whom clearly has a striking resemblance. I work from a picture but we finish the painting in a sitting session to adjust some small details and to add the light he has. It was a beautiful experience and enjoyable time for sharing good stories and color.

La aproximación sobre el retrato que se me encargo fue un tanto romántica. Mi cliente R. quería algo especial y que se pareciera en color forma y estilo al retrato de su abuelo, del que sin duda tiene gran parecido. Yo pensé que iba a ser mas sencillo., y que ser fiel a las pinceladas de aquel cuadro iba a ser pan comido.  Pero mi técnica y la precisión para lograr parecido más que mi propia expresión se adueño del proyecto.
Nada sorprendente es lidiar en un retrato con la percepción que tiene cada persona de sí misma. Aunque la cámara nos dice que el cuadro estaba bien logrado y el parecido acusado. Mi cliente no se veía en el, tampoco lo veía su familia quienes guardan de el una imagen que obviamente yo no tenía.
Acordamos que para ajustarme a sus requerimientos lo mejor sería que viniese a casa a posar para poder ajustarme a su imagen y el espacio circundante. 

Fue una expriencia entrañable.  R. acordó que el cuardo estaba bien hecho y accedí a modificarlo según sus requerimientos. Mientras el posaba tranquila y relajadamente, me encantaba con maravillosas historias y experiencias.  Esta experiencia me recordó que lo bello de hacer retratos al natural es la atmósfera que envuelve al que posa y al artista en un intercambio de luz reflejada y energía trasmitida a los ojos y devuelta por la mano que pinta.

Elves found in Italy / Duendes en Italia!!

A Spanish school teacher in Italy from la Scuola Primaria Villaggio Celdit, Chieti Scalo classe V sez A. has decided to prepare a Spanish language workshop (Classe di laboratorio di Spagnolo) using Duendes Caseros book! It is a great news that the book is being used to make them dream and also play with the language and imagination. I am so happy because of that!

Miren que bonito! El libro de duendes coge nuevo impulso pues ha sido utilizado por una Profesora de español que ha diseñado un taller de Duendes en un colegio de primaria en Italia (Scuola Primaria Villaggio Celdit, Chieti Scalo classe V sez A. Classe di laboratorio di Spagnolo ). Me han mandado una foto y me ha dado mucha ilusión. Los que estan fuera pueden comprar el libro por Amazon.es.

One year later, the book presentation and signing / Un años después: la presentación.

An impromptu visit to Spain  to do a small book presentation and a signing for the book Duendes Caseros published by Grupo Edaf. The book was launch originally in March 16 but I could n´t go until recently January 2017. Happy to present and sign this amazing book in a very peculiar place Corazón de Agave ( Agave´s Heart A nice place to enjoy a good and wide variety of mezcal and agave beverages, this spirit might help you to see some Duendes, Elves or Sprites).

Una inesperada visita  fue aprovechada para levantar una inesperada presentación para el libro Duendes Caseros. No podía dejar de pasar esta oportunidad para regalarme la experiecia de Celebrar y bendecir esta publicación que fue hecha con tanto esfuerzo , y dedicación. Gracias a todos los que asistieron, pasamos una hermosa velada y además pude dedicar al menos 15 libros todos con algun dibujito.

Tuve la suerte de colaborar en este proyecto ayudando a componer las escenas para la ilustradora de este libro de la mano de su autora. La autora me relataba las escenas y juntas componíamos lo que quería que la ilustradora dibujara. Debo decir que me la pasé pipa escuchando las aventuras de Katherine una niña que viaja en el tiempo en busca de Piratas y barcos vikingos que existieron en la historia en busca de la verdad. Katherine te emocionara con sus aventuras recorriendo mares y su determinación por poner de vuelta al mapa a todas las niñas y niños!
